12.5% of Couples have trouble getting pregnant.
If you are trying to conceive or are struggling to conceive, here are three facts that you should most certainly know.
Fact 1: Good Overall Health Doesn’t Imply Fertility
You might be a fitness junkie, a nutrition enthusiast or an exerciseholic. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you or your partner are fertile. Fertility is influenced by a host of factors including age, genetics, environmental factors and even stress. It is generally hard to pinpoint the cause of infertility without thorough analysis.
Fact 2: Your Weight Affects Your Ability to Conceive
12% of infertility is caused by obesity or malnourishment. Having optimum weight (BMI between 18 and 25) helps with conception. Women whose body fat percentage is less than 22% or greater than 35%, experience difficulty in menstruating. Ensure that your body weight is at optimum levels if you intend to get pregnant.
Fact 3: Biological Clocks Isn’t Just for Women
We often believe that only women have a biological clock when it comes to fertility. However, although not very obvious, the biological clock matters for men too. Men aged above 35, are much more likely to be unable to impregnate a woman in contrast to their younger counterparts.
Fertility is a combination of multiple factors. Know the facts, be prepared and consult your gynaecologist for suggestions and treatment options.
